From the Desk of the Executive Director
RE: Club Soccer
I would like to welcome you all back from your summer vacations and give you a brief update as to our first year as Everton FL.

I now feel comfortable with releasing our numbers for club soccer. I have waited until now as I wanted to be sure of our total numbers for season 2008-09. It is with great excitement that I inform you as club members our numbers swelled from 175 to a staggering 313 which is an increase of 138 players f rom season 2007-08!

This increase is due to the following factors but not limited to:

  • Liason with Everton Football Club
  • Improved direction
  • Greater Leadership
  • Fundraising
  • Improved coaches slate
  • Improvements at our Facility
  • Forward thinking
  • More training opportunities on offer for players
  • Improved communication to our club members

So much has happened in a year it's hard to believe that we have come so far? This is also due to the fact that our band of volunteers who work behind the scenes are driven to be the best and make a difference. I call these people our Unsung Heroes I really don't think we have ever been as strong in this area as I look back over the 9 years that I have been at this club.

We of course must keep an ardent eye on things as we progress and stay on the cutting edge of current trends and policies. This in turn will ensure a good quality product now and for many years to come!

I ask that you be guided by us as the professionals and make this an enjoyable experience for all concerned. The Everton Way is synonymous with player development. This in turn will prepare your child for the bigger picture as they grow and prepare them for the next level of soccer. Technical competence is essential if they are to develop in to a complete player. In order to help this long the way we have implemented a 3rd night for Technical training only. We place basics and lots of touches on the ball as a pre-requisite of these sessions. I strongly urge that you send your child. Failing to utilize such opportunities will lead to your child falling behind as the attendees improve their touch on the ball. These nights are all posted on the www, with a current curriculum.
I will be updating you with further information along the way.
Sincerely

Tony Paris
Executive Director

The Little Kritters Soccer Program has been developed especially for the very young. The children are introduced to the fundamentals of soccer through fun games, activities, and through our stars, Charlie and the Puppy Town Stars Soccer Club.

Each player receives a shirt, ball, story book and medal.

Parents read the story to their child so that he/she may be familiar with the story line and the characters. Each character has a specific soccer skill and these skills will be introduced to the children each week. Parents ask their children to perform the skills at home. This way, the skills become part of their soccer routine. These soccer skills are used by professional players around the world as part of their daily practice routine.

Very young players have difficulty in the concepts of sharing the ball with other players, team concepts, and direction of play. Charlie and his teammates will introduce the concept of sharing. Activities within the Little Kritters Soccer Program will acquaint the children to team and the direction concepts. All these are stepping stones towards the playing of actual soccer games.

The Returning Little Kritters program reinforces the skills that were learned in the first program in a fun format. The players move forward towards playing actual soccer games.

The Little Kritter Soccer Program was developed by Steve Jameson. Steve used his soccer knowledge, teaching background and parenting skills in the development of the program.

2008-09 Recreational Soccer Season
New U5 & U6 Academy Developmental League Added

During the 2007-08 Recreational Season, SPR added technical training for all rec players U6 through U12. The technical training was taught by the professional Recreational Training Staff. The training was a huge success with players, coaches and parents. Our success in the GYSA Cup and Kohls America’s Cup was credited to these training sessions. Technical training for the U8 - U12 age groups will continue during the upcoming season. Coaches of older age teams can request to have their team join these sessions.

Academy Developmental League (U5 & U6, previously our U6 age group)

EvertonFL/SPR believes that all young players should receive a quality foundation to their soccer education. The Academy Developmental League will provide that foundation for our U5’s and U6’s.

Players will practice once a week, under the guidance of our professional Recreation Training Staff. The program is structured so that all players will be given the same program at the same time by each coach. The focus is on the individual player. Technique (skills) will be emphasized. Every player will receive a ball, as part of their uniform package, to work on their skills at home as well as at practice.

On game day, the Director will place players into teams for games. This way there are no weaker teams or stronger teams on a regular basis. There will always be room for new players. Each season we turn away young players because of a lack of parent volunteers. There will be no, or few, substitutes on the sidelines. As a former player, I never heard a player saying that they played too many minutes. However, I constantly heard them complain of playing too few minutes. Kids want to play, not sit and watch others have fun. The games will consist of six 6 minute periods of "Open Soccer". Open Soccer provides each player the opportunity to be successful.

The Academy Developmental League will provide soccer education and fun.

Swiss UEFA A Licence Coach trains Everton Fl, U-17/18's

Ex -Swiss Olympic club Berne Manager Philippe Niederhauser made a guest appearance last night and was able to host a session for both our U-17 boys and Girls teams.
He has coached at a high level in Switzerland and was able to impart his knowledge to our players. He was over this way with his Family on a vacation so was able to drop by and run the session. It’s good experience for our players to have coaches from outside of the USA work with them and for them to see soccer from another perspective.
The session was basic but fun, as the players start their pre-season training this was just what they needed with lots of touches on the ball.  Everton Fl would like to thank Philippe for giving his time and wish him safe travels back to Switzerland this coming Sunday.

Other News!
For further education purposes Paris is looking to bring in Roy Miller the Director of the the Irish FA Association to Everton FL in January 09. A date will be posted when this had been agreed.
