                                                Fall Newsletter

From the Desk of the Executive Director

With a senior season almost at an end for this side of Christmas and a junior season just getting ready to begin, I cannot believe how quickly time has passed!

Many of our senior teams have had a good run thus far...Of course it’s that time of the year where the senior players are trying out for School ball, so I would like to wish them every success in their pursuits. Our teams have already played in multiple Tournaments getting tuned for their league season to start. The juniors will play from November through February and then enter both State and region cups competitions.

We have had our club Technical training on offer now since August and have just completed the first part of the curriculum. This has been well supported by our younger players and improvement is already evident.

Since my last communication we have had a successful Club Tournament with over 70 teams and much more happening at Everton Fl!

Our Recreational program is heading back to the fields and never been in better shape since our Recreational Director has been in control. More technical training is taking place for these players helping them hone their skills for this coming season.

We are looking forward to a fun filled season for all concerned and look forward to seeing you all on the fields over the coming months.

Sincerely

Tony Paris

Welcome                                                                                                                                                                                                       I would like to start by welcoming the new parents and players to Everton Florida/St Pete Raiders SC. We strive to provide your child with a quality experience, whether it is as a competitive player with Everton Florida, or as a recreational player with the St Pete Raiders.

Why is it Taking so Long to Make the Schedule?

It is a long drawn out process to make up the schedules. I will attempt to explain the process, or should say processes, that take place.

First, the competitive schedule is made. In September, competitive teams met to help form divisions, based on competition and locality. Time was given to allow the club boards to approve the divisions for their teams. The clubs then sent the dates that they had fields available to the league (USA) scheduler. This week the league sent the dates back to the clubs to now place the times. The coaches will be given 10 days to make any changes. That takes us until after the weekend of Oct 25/26.

Second, at the same time a similar process has been taking place within GYSA for our U12 through  U19 recreational teams.

Finally, after these two processes have been completed, we can fill in the U10 and U8 age groups.

But Why do the U8 & U10 Rec Teams Have to Wait When We do the Scheduling? The U10 Rec teams share the same fields as our U9 and U10 Competitive teams. Therefore, we have to wait to see what times are available. In the U8 Rec division we have several coaches who coach at other age divisions. Therefore, we have to wait until the other games are scheduled to make sure that the coach does not have two games at the same time.

This process will take us into the week leading up to our first games for our Rec teams.

Everyone at the Rec  U8 and U10 age groups should plan having their first game on either Oct 30th or Nov 1st.

Recreational Technical Training                                                                                                                    Forty-five minutes of Technical training is provided for the U8 – U14 age groups each week. This training proved very popular and successful  last year. The technical training takes place at the far end of the South Central Fields. The schedule is posted on the wall of the Clubhouse. Please make sure your child is there the correct time and night. We have the number of paid coaches based on the number of players expected.

Parking                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Parking is a problem at our facility. We have grown as a club, yet the parking spaces have remained the same. Please make sure that when you park, you do not block off an emergency entrance, or another vehicle. If you park illegally in the lots or illegally on the street, the police will ticket you. The city has provided extra space for us on game nights and days. The grassy area at the corner of Foch & 58th will now be available. Please park in an orderly fashion and treat the park with respect. Again, this will only be available for game nights and days. If you park there on a non game night/day, you will be ticketed.

Dogs                                                                                                                                                                    We would prefer that you keep your dog at home. However, if you must bring your dog, you must follow the city rules. All dogs must be on a leash. No dogs are allowed at all in the fenced areas (North, South and East Fields).  All dogs must be kept away from the playing areas on the Multi-purpose and South Central Fields.  They may not be around the clubhouse, playground and picnic pavilion. This leaves you with the area outside the fences and the city bathroom area. Yes, it is not much of an area.  However, that is the area where you must keep your dog during practice and games. This rule applies to all sizes of dogs. Referees have the power to not allow a game to start or continue, or even cancel a game if a dog is not removed from the playing area.

Volunteers                                                                                                                                                          An email was recently sent out to everyone looking for volunteers to work in the concession stands on game days and working as a Field Marshall either during practice or on game days. If you are interested in working off your volunteer hours, then please contact Laurie at sjevertonfl@yahoo.com.

Cleats & Shinguards

We are installing a program where you can exchange cleats and shinguards.  A container will be placed outside the clubhouse each evening. You may drop off donations or pick up items for your child. Please consider donating cleats and shinguards as your child outgrows them.

New Recreational U8 Rules

We will be using new rules for the U8 division this year and a new Goal  Area marking.

1.       Goal Area marking. The new goal area marking shall be a 15ft semi circle.

 2.            No goal kicks – game is restarted with a Defender Possession. The defender can throw, kick, punt, or dribble the ball back into play. Play resumes once the ball has cleared the Goal Area.  If the ball is returned into the Goal Area before the defender has time to clear the Goal Area it will be retaken.

3.       No player shall be allowed in the Goal Area. If a defender touches the ball and, in the referee’s opinion, prevents a goal, a goal shall be given. If, in the referee’s opinion, the ball would not have crossed the line for a goal, a corner kick shall be awarded to the attacking team.

4.      If an attacker touches the ball in the goal area, a Defender Possession shall be given.

5.     If the ball stops in the Goal Area, a Defender Possession will be awarded.
