ST. PETE RAIDERS

Bringing Soccer to Pinellas County Families Since 1970

Ethan Goddard Named Director of Recreational Soccer

Dear Raiders Family,

My name is Ethan Goddard and I am the new Director of Recreational Soccer at St. Pete Raiders.  I am thrilled and honored to help write the next chapter in our club's history. I have been an active player since I was five years old (45 years!). I still play every week.  I've coached at St. Pete Raiders, in various capacities, for 13 years and I hold a US Soccer Level C Coaching License.

The club has been building momentum for several years thanks to the commitment and effort of Directors Tony Paris, Mike Winsor, Ray Chassereau, and Pablo Salamanca, the coaching and operations staff, and YOU the players, families and supporters who are the lifeblood of this club.  My mission is to grow the grassroots recreational program in size and impact by improving player development and supporting volunteer coaches.  The foundations for this initiative are the Six Core Values of the St. Pete Raiders which you can learn about here: http://www.northeastraiders.org/our-club/core-values

The Grassroots/Recreational season starts soon and the club is in the midst of registration.  Teams will be formed in the next few weeks, training will commence in October, and GYSA match day #1 will take place in early November. I am hard at work behind the scenes developing and improving the resources that will support player development and the volunteer coaches that give so much of their time, and heart, to your kids.

Improvements are already underway.  We are in the midst of a "high-press" on-the-ground and social media advertising blitz to build registration numbers.  Competitive Program coaches are receiving basic First Aid and CPR training and an AED is being installed in the club house consistent with the Raiders commitment to player health and safety.  A grassroots player development framework is in development that will enable volunteer coaches to hit the ground running with recommended best practices, training calendars and session plans at their disposal.

I will be sending periodic communications (newsletter-style program updates, helpful player and supporter resources, pleas for volunteers, etc.) over the course of the season.  My email is below, my ears are always open and I am around the training campus often.  I look forward to hearing your constructive feedback as we try new ideas, achieve progress, make mistakes, and most importantly, grow as players, coaches and appreciators of this incredibly complicated and extraordinarily beautiful game.

Brevity is not my strong suit; I am sure that those of you who know me would agree.  So to hopefully avoid the TLDR curse I will end this message here.  Suffice it is to say that I am excited and energized to be a part of the St Pete Raiders family as it embarks on its next 50 years of serving the community.  Stay tuned to learn what's ahead!

Go Raiders!,

Ethan Goddard
